AVA – Elizabeth Jean (Betty) Ehlers, 91, of Ava, passed away Monday, January 9, 2023, at Three Springs Lodge, Chester, Illinois.

Betty was born in St. Louis, MO, on October 27, 1931, the daughter of James and Cordia (Astholz) Kleckner. She married Lawrence Louis Ehlers, on December 4, 1954, in Campbell Hill, IL, he preceded her in death on June 16, 2015. Betty was a homemaker. She was a member of St. Luke's Lutheran Church, Campbell Hill, and WELCA, St. Luke's Lutheran Church, Campbell Hill.

Betty is survived by her daughter, Linda (Jerry) Smith of Ava, IL, daughter-in-law, Katie Ehlers of Ava, IL, grandchildren: Jeremiah Smith, Samantha Smith; step grandchildren: Angela (Sergio) Feal, Sarah (Chris) Morber; and five great grandchildren.

Betty is also preceded in death by her parents, one son, Curt Ehlers, and one half-sister, Ruth.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, January 12, 2023, at 11:00 am, at St. Luke Lutheran Church, with Minister Deb Rathert officiating. Burial will follow at St. Luke Lutheran Cemetery, Campbell Hill. Friends may call from 10:00 – 11:00 am at the church. Memorials may be given to Jackson County Humane Society.
