AVA, Zelma Mae Burden, 85, of Ava, passed away at 9:10 A.M. Thursday, January 01, 2009, at Hitz Memorial Home in Alhambra, IL. She was born February 15, 1923 in Pocahontas, Arkansas the daughter of Ira Issac Bryant and Dellar Mae (Davis) Bryant. She married Cecil S. Burden on July 5, 1941 in Popular Bluff, MO. He preceded her in death on May 7, 2007. Mrs. Burden was retired where she worked as a housekeeper for the Christian Welfare Hospital in East St. Louis, IL. She was also a member of the United Community Church in Campbell Hill, IL. She is survived by four children: Dorothy May Young of Christopher, IL, Alford Lee Burden of Granite City, IL, Phyllis Marie Cox of Bunker Hill, IL, Glenda Darlene Nahkai of Shiprock, NM; ten grandchildren, fifteen great grandchildren, seven great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, one son Douglas Burden, one brother and one sister. Funeral services will be held Monday, January 5, 2009 at 10:00 A.M. at Wilson's Funeral Home in Ava. Pastor Sam Higgerson and Darlene Nahkai will be officiating. Burial will be at Ava Evergreen Cemetery. Visitation will be held at Wilson's Funeral Home, Ava on Sunday from 6-8 PM and on Monday from 7:30 am until the hour of service Memorials may be made to United Community Church.
