STEELEVILLE – Wilma Waltemate, 101, of Steeleville, passed away at 8:39 pm, Thursday, August 29, 2024, at the Addington Place in Sparta.

Wilma was born in Steeleville, on August 14, 1923, the daughter of William and Mary Blume Appuhn. She married Vilas Waltemate on December 28, 1945 at Peace Lutheran Church in Steeleville. He preceded her in death on May 6, 2010. Wilma was the retired Postmaster at Cutler, Illinois, after working 22 years, and also served in Steeleville for many years. She was a member of the Peace Lutheran Church of Steeleville.

Wilma is survived by her sons, Tom (Mary) Waltemate of Steeleville, Scott Waltemate of Shreveport, LA, and Don Waltemate of Steeleville; 4 grandchildren, Ellen (Justin) Hodge, Ted (Amber) Waltemate, Aaron Waltemate and Stuart Waltemate; 5 great grandchildren, Mae Hodge, Luke Waltemate, twins, Emmylou and Betty Jane Hodge, and Nolan Waltemate; and one sister, Lucille Montgomery of Belleville.

Wilma was also preceded in death by her Parents; one brother; and four sisters.

Memorial service will be held on Wednesday, September 4, 2024, at 11:00 am, at Peace Lutheran Church, Steeleville with Rev. Kenneth Tegtmeier and Julie Posth, Parish Assistant officiating. Burial will follow at Peace Lutheran Cemetery, Steeleville. Visitation will be held at Peace Lutheran Church, on Wednesday from 9 am until 11 am. Memorials may be given to Steeleville Senior Center or Peace Lutheran Church.
