PERCY - William Valentine Degenhardt, 73, of Percy, passed away at 7:05 am, Saturday, December 6, 2014 at the Community Living Center, VA Hospital in Marion, Illinois. William was born in DuQuoin, Illinois on March 27, 1941, the son of Joseph H. and Cora E. Viers Degenhardt. He married Kay Lodge on March 2, 1968 at Central Baptist Church in Willisvillle. William was a US Navy veteran, having served on the USS Boxer as a Machinist Mate from 1959 until 1963. He was a bookbinder at Spartan Printing, Access Printing, North Florida Web, where he retired in 2004. He was of the Catholic Faith. William was a member of the Alma Lodge A.F. & A.M. #497, Steeleville; Chapter #738 OES of Steeleville; and B.B.K. American Legion Post #480, Steeleville. William is survived by his wife, Kay Degenhardt of Percy; brothers-in-law, Lyle (Sarah) Wydeck of Campbell Hill, Wayne (Sherrie) Lodge or Percy, Bill (Patti) Lodge of Steeleville; sister-in-law, Colletta Degenhardt of Pinckneyville, IL; several nieces and nephews; and several great nieces and great nephews. William was preceded in death by his Parents and brother, David "Herb" Degenhardt. Funeral service will be held at 10:30 am Wednesday, December 10, 2014 at the Wilson's Funeral Home in Steeleville with Rev. Willis Durbin and Father Allen Rupert officiating. Visitation will be at Wilson's Funeral Home in Steeleville, where friends may call from 6 pm until 8 pm Tuesday and on Wednesday from 7:30 am until 10:30 am. Memorials may be given to the Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation and will be accepted at the funeral home.
