STEELEVILLE – William A. "Bill" Knop, 78, of Steeleville passed away at 8:23 AM, Monday, December 31, 2018, at his home.
William was born on May 20, 1940, in Percy, the son of Herman and Sophie (Dierks) Knop. Bill was in the US Army from 1960 to 1965, and he married Alice L. Picker Kraus, on February 6, 1981, in Steeleville and they shared 37 years of marriage. Bill was retired operating engineer. He was a member of the St. Mark's Lutheran Church in Steeleville and the Operating Engineers Local #520 of Granite City, Illinois.
He is survived by his wife; Alice L. Knop, of Steeleville, 9 children; William D. (Patricia) Knop, of Marissa, Jon A. (Heide) Knop, of Steeleville, Roberta (Tim) VanDoren, of Dittmer, Missouri, Gregory (Barbara) Kraus, of Baldwin, Missouri, Angela (Kevin) Diercks, of Steeleville, Brent (Elizbeth) Kraus, of Smithton, Illinois, Chad (Vicki) Kraus, of Bossier City, Louisiana, Derik (Christina) Kraus, of Ava, Matthew (Adrienne) Kraus, of Steeleville, 28 grandchildren, and 10 great grandchildren.
Mr. Knop was preceded in death by his parents, 2 brothers; Wilbert and Lawrence Knop, and 2 sisters; Thelma Weaver, and Esther Sickmeyer.
Funeral services will be held at 11 AM, Friday, January 4, 2019, at the St. Mark's Lutheran Church in Steeleville with Rev. William F. Engfehr, III, officiating, and burial will follow at the Paradise Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Thursday evening at the Wilson's Funeral Home in Steeleville where friends may call from 5 to 8 PM, and then on Friday morning from 7:30 to 9 AM, and from 10 to 11 AM at the church. Memorials may be made to the St. Mark's Lutheran School or Maple Creek Hospice.
