Obituary

CHESTER - Wilburn R. "Wib" Ebers, 88, of Chester, passed away at 8:42 pm, Friday, June 27, 2014 at the Three Springs Lodge in Chester. Wilburn was born in Wine Hill, Illinois on August 19, 1925, the son of Edmund and Lena Diercks Ebers. He was united in marriage to the love of his life, Elsa D. Westerman on June 2, 1946 at Campbell Hill, IL. She preceded him in death on December 20, 1991. Wilburn was a retired parts Manager at Bockhorn Motors in Steeleville. He was a lifelong member, was baptized and confirmed, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Wine Hill, Illinois, where he was a member of the Lutheran Laymens League, cooked apple butter, sang in the choir and was a Sunday School teacher. He was a US Army veteran of WWII and was a 70 year member of the Alva Courier Post #487 American Legion in Chester, Illinois. He was a member of the Sister City Group of Porta Westfolica out of Water, Illinois, during which time he entertained families from Germany at his home. He loved the trips he took to Germany and the many friends he made there. He enjoyed line dancing and singing his German songs with the band. He enjoyed going down to the farm and loved nature. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. He was a kind person with many friends and was a fighter through many illnesses during his lifetime. He loved and was very proud of his family and his church. Wilburn is survived by his son, Gary (Denise) Ebers of Walsh, IL; and his daughter, Sharon (Chris) Snider of Steeleville, IL; his grandchildren, Kristin (Glenn) Wolter of Red Bud, IL, Michael (Brandy) Ebers of Wildwood, MO, Jennifer (Clayton) Mallette of Troy, IL, Michelle Snider of Baltimore, MD, Kathryn (Donnie) Rednour of Foristell, MO, and Justin Snider of Cape Girardeau, MO; 9 great grandchildren, Anna & Alan Wolter, Landon and Preston Ebers, Addison, Carter, and Mackenzie Mallette, and Laney and Rynn Snider; his sister, Eddell Fedderke of Chester; and several nieces and nephews. Wilburn was also preceded in death by his parents; and brothers, Arnold, Adolph and Norman Ebers. Funeral service will be held at 11:00 am, Tuesday, July 1, 2014 at the St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Wine Hill, with Rev. Tim B. Zechiel officiating. Burial will follow in St. Paul's Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be at Wilson's Funeral Home, Steeleville, where friends may call from 5 pm to 8 pm Monday and on Tuesday from 7:30 am until 9 am then from 10 am until 11 am at the church. Memorials may be given to St. Paul's Lutheran Cemetery Perpetual Care.
