AVA – Wilburn L. Guy, 85, of Ava passed away at 5:00 AM, Friday, March 17, 2017, at Manor Court in Carbondale.
Wilburn was born on April 9, 1931, in Ava, the son of Thomas Courtney and Minerva Irene (Crisler) Guy. He married Mary Jane Popejoy on February 24, 1955 in Peoria, Illinois. Wilburn was a farmer and retired from Penn Aluminum in Murphysboro after 35 years. He was a veteran of the US Army having served during the Korean Conflict. Wilburn was a member of the First Baptist Church in Ava.
Wilburn is survived by his wife, Mary Jane Guy of Ava; five children, Deborah Guy of Steeleville, Edward Guy of Campbell Hill, Thomas Guy of Ava, Douglas Guy of Ava, and Anthony Guy of Ava; 8 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren; one brother, Charles Guy of Ocean Side, CA; and one sister, Betty Marnati of Murphysboro.
Wilburn was preceded in death by his Parents; three brothers; and three sisters.
Funeral service will be held at 1:00 pm, Sunday, March 19, 2017 at the Wilson's Funeral Home in Ava with Rev. Tim Olson officiating. Burial will follow in Ava Evergreen Cemetery. Visitation will be at Wilson's Funeral Home, Ava, where friends may call from 5 pm until 8 pm Saturday and on Sunday from 7:30 am until hour of service. Memorials may be given to Ava Evergreen Cemetery.
