Obituary

STEELEVILLE – Wilbert “Wib” Joost, 93, of Steeleville, passed away at 12:30 am, Saturday, May 9, 2026, at the Pinckneyville Nursing and Rehab in Pinckneyville, Illinois.

Wilbert was born in Steeleville, Illinois, on April 15, 1933, the son of John H. and Mathilda Lakeman Joost. He married Lila Biermann McCuen at Peace Lutheran Church, Steeleville, on November 26, 1970. They shared 55 years of marriage. Wilbert was an Army Veteran of the Korean Conflict from 1954-1956. He was the owner and operator of Joost Construction in Steeleville. Wilbert was a member of Peace Lutheran Church, Steeleville; Steeleville Lions Club since 1968 and BBK American Legion Post #480, Steeleville. IN 2018, Wib participated in the Veteran Honor Flight to Washington D.C.

Wilbert is survived by his wife, Lila Joost of Steeleville; children, Terri (Rick) Stevenson of Campbell Hill, Kevin (Jamie) Joost of Red Bud, IL; grandchildren, Shane (Kassidy) Stevenson, Cole (Amy) Stevenson, Adrianne Webb and Tristan (Amanda) Joost; great grandchildren, Logan Stevenson, Jolene Stevenson, Mason Stevenson and Hudson Stevenson.

Wilbert was preceded in death by his Parents; 6 brothers, Adolf Joost, Ferd Joost, Martin Joost, Elmer Joost, LeRoy Joost and Walter Joost; and 3 sisters, Mada Dudenbostel, Clara Degener and Ann Schaack.

Funeral service will be held on Tuesday, May 12, 2026, at 1:00 pm, at Peace Lutheran Church, Steeleville, with Rev. Kenneth Tegtmeir and Parish Minister Assistant Julie Posth officiating. Burial will follow at Peace Lutheran Cemetery, Steeleville. Visitation will be at Peace Lutheran Church, Steeleville, on Tuesday from 11 am until 1 pm. Memorials may be given to the Veteran’s Honor Flight or the Steeleville Lion’s Club, and can be mailed to Wilson’s Funeral Home, PO Box 217, Steeleville, IL 62288.
