MURPHYSBORO, Walter Dewey Lipps, 91, of Murphysboro, passed away at 7:23 PM Saturday, April 30, 2016, at Manor Court in Carbondale, Illinois.  He was born November 18, 1924 in St. Joseph, Missouri the son of Walter Dewey, Sr. and Leola (Chastain) Lipps.  Walter married Verna Leinicke Buffington on April 30, 1983 in Newport Beach, California. Verna  passed away on April 13, 2011.

Walter was a retired City Inspector.  He served in the U.S. Navy during WWII.

He is survived by his children:  Nancy Swift and Ted Lipps; 5 Grandchildren, several Great Grandchildren and 2 Great Great Grandchildren.

Walter is preceded in death by his parents, a daughter, Mary and two sisters.

Walter's wishes were for cremation and burial will be at the Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery, San Diego, California at a later date. The family is being assisted by Wilson's Funeral Home in Ava, IL.
