STEELEVILLE - Rev. Waldimar W. Dressler, 88, of Steeleville, passed away at 8:06 pm, Tuesday, January 13, 2015 at the Randolph County Care Center in Sparta. Waldimar was born in Langenberg, Saskatchewan, Canada, to Jacob and Johanna (Becker) Dressler. He was the youngest of 13 siblings. He received schooling in Saskatchewan and Manitoba. At age 14, he went to Concordia College, Edmonton, Alberta for his high school and junior college education. In 1946, he came to the United State to attend Concordia Seminary in St. Louis. Waldimar first made a stop in the Chicago area to meet a sister that he had never met. She became his second mother, supporting him while attending school in the United States. During his vicarage year, there was a shortage of teacher in the Lutheran Church, so he volunteered to teach for a year. He served his vicarage at St. Peter's Lutheran Church, Campbell Hill, teaching grades 4-8. There are many former students in the area that remember him as a Teacher. It was there he met his future wife, Doris Jean Todaro. He became an American Citizen by Naturalization in 1963. (Waldimar graduated Concordia Seminary, St. Louis in 1951. His first parish was Duval, Saskatchewan, Canada, where he served four churches each week. His next parish was St. John's Lutheran, Frobisher, Saskatchewan, also a parish where he served four churches each week.) Waldimar served St. Paul's Lutheran Church in East Chicago, IN, St. John's in Evanston, IN, and St. Paul's in Hamel, IL. He retired active ministry in 1991, but he continued to follow his calling to serve His Lord. He served six more churches in the Indianapolis area. His last was to serve as a Visiting Pastor for Calvary Lutheran Church. There he visited the sick and shut-ins until 2005, when he finally retired at the age of 80. He married Doris in April of 1954, she survives of Steeleville, IL. They were blessed with three children. He leaves two daughters, Linda (Tom) Englert of Evansville, IN, and Karen (Mike) Argeanas of Moriarty, NM; daughter-in-law, Sue Dressler of Indianapolis, IN; three granddaughters, Johnny Marie (Brian) Weddle of Glenmoore, PA, Sydney Dressler of Anderson, IN, and Tristan Englert of Bloomington, IN; one grandson, Ezekiel Argeanas of Moriarty, NM; one step grandson, Michael (Amanda) Ardizzone of Mooresville, IN; and a step great grandson, Ethen of Mooresville, IN. He also leaves two sisters, Margaret Becker of Edmonton, Alberta and Virginia Adelemann of Smeaton, Saskatchewan; a host of nieces and nephews; and many friends from the parishes he served. A son, Warren; his parents; 6 brother and 5 sisters are welcoming him into fellowship in heaven with them. All rejoicing with Jesus Our Savior. Funeral service will be held at 11:00 am, Saturday, January 17, 2015 at the St. John's Lutheran Church in Sparta with Rev. Bruce Cameron officiating. Burial will follow at Paradise Cemetery in Steeleville. Visitation will be at Wilson's Funeral Home, Steeleville, where friends may call from 5 pm until 8 pm Friday and on Saturday from 7:30 am until 9 am then from 10 am until 11 am at the church.
