STEELEVILLE – Wahnetta P. Lakeman, 103, of Steeleville, IL, passed away Sunday, July 10, 2022, 11:55 AM, at Three Springs Lodge, Chester, Illinois.

Wahnetta was born June 17, 1919, in Royalton, IL, to James Cleveland and Emma Cora Lee (Johnson) Mitchell. She married Arthur C. Lakeman on September 3, 1949, in Bremen, IL. He preceded her in death on March 8, 2005. Wahnetta was a homemaker. She was a member of Peace Lutheran Church, Steeleville, IL, and the National Chapter of A.A.R.P. Wahnetta was a very accomplished artist, having won many awards for her beautiful paintings. She also loved to quilt. One of her favorite pastimes was to watch wild birds feed while she was quilting.

Wahnetta is survived by her brother, William Hutchinson of New Jersey, nephew, Allen Mitchell of Chester, IL, nieces: Dianna Eubanks of Percy, IL, Joni (John) Vogt of Ava, IL, Donna (Bob) Miller of Steeleville, IL; and special friends Alice Reid and Butch and Carlene Ogle.

Wahnetta is also preceded in death by her parents, brothers: Josh and Leon Mitchell of Percy, IL, sisters-in-law: Barb Mitchell and Wanda Mitchell of Percy, IL; nephews: Jim Mitchell of Pinckneyville, IL, Leroy and Jack Mitchell of Percy, IL and Curtis Eubanks of Percy, IL.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am, Wednesday, July 13, 2022, Wilson's Funeral Home, Steeleville, IL, with Parrish Ministry Assistant Julie Posth officiating. Burial to follow at Paradise Cemetery, Steeleville, IL. Friends may call from 9 – 11 am. Memorials may be given to Peace Lutheran Church and can be mailed to Wilson's Funeral Home, P.O.
