STEELEVILLE, Vilas B. Waltemate, 86, of Steeleville, passed away at 6:55 A.M. Thursday, May 06, 2010, at his home in Steeleville, IL. He was born July 05, 1923 in Steeleville, Illinois the son of Carl H. Waltemate and Wilhelmina (Huch) Waltemate. Vilas married Wilma Appuhn on December 28, 1945 in Peace Lutheran Church in Steeleville, IL. He is survived by his wife Wilma Waltemate of Steeleville, IL; three sons: Dr. Tom and Mary Jane Waltemate of Steeleville, IL, Dr. Scott and Jill Waltemate of Shreveport, LA, Don Waltemate of Steeleville, IL; four grandchildren: Ellen and Dr. Justin Hodge of Makanda, IL, Ted and Amber Waltemate of Steeleville, IL, Aaron Waltemate of Shreveport, LA; two great grandchildren: Mae Hodge and Luke Waltemate; two sisters: Maxine Goetting and, Dorothy and Kenneth Bockhorn both of Steeleville, IL. Vilas is preceded in death by his parents. Mr. Waltemate served in the U.S. Navy, during the World War II. He was retired from Arch Mineral Coal Company and a member of Peace Lutheran Church in Steeleville, IL, BBK American Legion Post #480 Steeleville, IL and the U.M.W.of A. Local #1392. Memorial services will be held Saturday, May 9, 2010 at 11:00 A.M. at Peace Lutheran Church in Steeleville, IL. Rev. Blake Duncan of Peace Lutheran Church will be officiating. Due to Mr. Waltemates wished cremation will take place. Friends may call at Peace Lutheran Church from 9 to 10:45 a.m. on Saturday. Memorials may be made to Peace Lutheran Church General Fund or TIP Hospice.
