CAMPBELL HILL - Vernon H. Sickmeyer, 87, of Campbell Hill, passed away at 7:55 am, Wednesday, June 18, 2014 at his home. Vernon was born in Campbell Hill on November 1, 1926, the son of Harry and Pauline Huch Sickmeyer. He married Esther Knop on August 29, 1948 at Steeleville. She preceded him in death on May 2, 2011. Vernon was a farmer and was a member of the St. Mark's Lutheran Church, Steeleville. Vernon is survived by his children, David (Cindy) Sickmeyer of Steeleville, Diane (Bill) Hannon of Goreville, IL, Jim (Becky) Sickmeyer of Campbell Hill, and Doris (Neal) Castens of Steeleville; four grandchildren, Tanya (John) Cowan, Brad (Rita) Sickmeyer, Danielle (Aaron) Van Fleet, and Amber Castens (Fiancee, Aaron Cox); three great grandchildren, Kelsey Cowan, Elijah Van Fleet, and Eva Sickmeyer; one sister, Opal (Leland) Luthy of Baldwin, IL. Vernon was also preceded in death by his parents; two sons, Wesley and Irvin Sickmeyer; one sister, Mildred Atchison; and one brother, Irvin Sickmeyer. Funeral service will be held at 10:00 am, Saturday, June 21, 2014 at the St. Mark's Lutheran Church in Steeleville with Rev. Dr. Alan W. Janneke officiating. Burial will follow at St. Mark's Lutheran Cemetery, Steeleville. Visitation will be at Wilson's Funeral Home, Steeleville, where friends may call from 6 pm until 8 pm Friday and on Saturday from 7:30 am until 8:30 am then from 9 am until 10 am at the church. Memorials may be given to St. Mark's Lutheran School or the American Cancer Society.
