MURPHYSBORO, Vernon Logan Sandusky, Sr., 94, of Murphysboro, passed away at 3:11 A.M. Tuesday, January 27, 2009, at Rehab & Care Center in Murphysboro, IL. Vernon was born September 26, 1914 in Levan Township, Illinois the son of William Henry Sandusky and Maude Alice (Hardy) Sandusky. He married Sarah Evelyn Levan on March 27, 1937 at Murphysboro, IL. She passed away March 29, 1979. He then married Edith Elmore Marshall on October 2, 1982 at Murphysboro, IL. She survives. Vernon was a retired farmer and was a member of the Murphysboro Lions Club. He is survived by his wife Edith Sandusky of Murphsyboro, IL; two daughters, Marjorie (Tom) Crandall of Orion, Michigan, and Carol Bryant of Murphysboro, IL; one son, Vernon L. (Pam) Sandusky, Jr. of Sparta, IL; 11 grandchildren; 5 step grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; 7 step great grandchildren; two step daughters, Wilma Nelson of Murphysboro and Lynn (Richard) Pierson of Murphysboro; one step son-in-law, Kenny Davis of Gorham, IL; two sisters, Thelma (Louis) Chettero of Merced, CA and Kathleen Heins of Murphysboro, IL. He was preceded in death by his Parents; his first wife; one son-in-law, Earl Bryant; one step daughter, Judy Davis; one brother, Jim and two sisters, Carrie Sandusky and Audry Gaselway. Funeral services will be held Friday, January 30, 2009 at 1:00 P.M. at Wilson's Funeral Home in Ava with Rev. Brian Trambley officiating. Burial will follow at Pleasent Hill Christian Cemetery in Murphysboro. Visitation will be held at Wilson's Funeral Home, Ava, IL on Friday from 10 am until 1 pm. Memorials may be made to Pleasant Hill Cemetery.
