CHESTER – Vernon A. Gielow, 87, of Chester, formerly of Pinckneyville, passed away at 1:30 pm, Wednesday, August 23, 2023, at Three Springs Lodge, Chester, Illinois.
Vernon was born on September 17, 1935, in Steeleville, Illinois, the son of Albert and Ella Rinne Gielow. He married Vivian Kipp on September 29, 1956 at St. John's Lutheran Church, Chester. Vernon was a retired Maintenance Foreman from Arch Coal. He was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church-Wine Hill, Steeleville.
Vernon had a love for John Deere tractors. It was his passion to restore antique tractors and pedal tractors.
Vernon is survived by his wife, Vivian Gielow of Chester; children, Bob (Tammy) Gielow of Steeleville, Jeanie (Brad Perry) Coleman of New Baden, IL and Jim (Denise) Gielow of Pinckneyville; 4 grandchildren, Greg (Janelle) Coleman, Jill (Keith) Georger, Micaela (Joshua) Stein, and Bradley (Becky) Gielow; and 8 great grandchildren, Izzy, Noah, Alyssa, Nathan, Parker, Miles, Mackenzie and Alaina.
Vernon was preceded in death by his Parents and one brother, Marvin Gielow.
Funeral service will be held at 10:00 am, Saturday, August 26, 2023, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church-Wine Hill, Steeleville, with Rev. Mark Sedwick officiating. Burial will follow at Paradise Cemetery, Steeleville. Visitation will be at Wilson's Funeral Home, Steeleville, where friends may call from 5 pm until 8 pm Friday, and on Saturday from 9 am until 10 am the church. The preferred form of remembrance are memorials to St. Paul's Lutheran Church Redecorating Fund.
