STEELEVILLE – Vernon Dobyns, 79, of Steeleville passed away at 1:34 PM, Sunday, May 5, 2019, at the Sparta Community Hospital.

Vernon was born on January 20, 1940, in Modoc, Illinois the son of Arthur and Mary (Byers) Dobyns. He was an in the U.S. Army during Vietnam. Vernon married Margaret Mines, on August 3, 1963, in DuQuoin, and they shared 55 years of marriage. Vernon was a retied Butcher, and of the Baptist faith, he was also a member of the U.S.C.W, Frankfort, Illinois. Vernon was a devoted family man, good hearted and thought the best of everyone he had contact with.

He is survived by his wife; Margaret Dobyns, of Steeleville, children; Michelle (Todd) Kempfer, of Steeleville, Lonnie Dobyns, of Steeleville, Darron Dobyns(fiance Michelle Youn, and sons), of Steeleville, sister; Shirley Stallman, of Dyeburg, Tennessee, brother; Jerry (Terry) Dobyns, of Kimly, Illinois.

Mr. Dobyns was preceded in death by his parents, 1 son; Vernon Keith Dobyns, 4 sisters, and 5 brothers.

Memorial service will be held at 10 AM, on Saturday, May 11, 2019, at the Sparta Christian Church, Sparta, with Pastor Clint Evans officiating. Memorials may be made to the Schriner's Hospital. Wilson's Funeral Home in Steeleville is assisting the family with the arrangements.
