STEELEVILLE, Verna A. Thies, 91, of Steeleville, passed away at 12:25 A.M. Monday, January 19, 2009, at Randolph County Care Center in Sparta, IL. She was born August 31, 1917 in Wine Hill, Illinois the daughter of William Bollman and Olga (Waltemate) Bollman. She married Norman C. (Shorty) Thies on October 3, 1942 in Wine Hill, Illinois. He passed away on January 28, 1987. Verna is a member of Peace Lutheran Church in Steeleville, Illinois, a homemaker, and a member of the W.E. L.C.A. She also enjoyed crocheting and gardening. She is survived by one daughter, Darlene Finley of Sparta, IL; one daughter-in-law, Linda Thies of Sparta; one son-in-law, Ed Haertling of Steeleville, IL; nine grandchildren, Kevin Haertling of Orlando, FL, Bonnie (Les) Hill of Steeleville, Tracy (Joe) O'Dell of Sparta, Neal (Bernadette) Haertling of Steeleville; Kenny (Valerie) Finley of Troy, IL, Dena (Jason) Schlimme of Sparta, Lynette (Kevin) Holliday of Tilden, IL, Roy (Annalee) Finley of Sparta, Mary (Eric) Polley of Steeleville; 21 great grandchildren; and one sister-in-law, Lillian Bollman of Chester. She was preceded in death by her parents, two daughters Marilyn Haertling and infant Judith Thies, one son Gary Thies, one great granddaughter Heather Steele, one brother Herbert Bollman and one son-in-law William M. Finley. Funeral services will be held Thursday, January 22, 2009 at 11:00 A.M. at Peace Lutheran Church in Steeleville. Debbie Rathert, Licensed Lay Minister will be officiating. Burial will be at St. Peters Lutheran Cemetery, Wine Hill, IL. Visitation will be held at Wilson's Funeral Home, Steeleville on Wednesday from 5-8 PM and on Thursday from 7:30 am to 9am then from 10 to 11am at the church. Memorials may be made to St. Peters Cemetery Fund, Peace Lutheran Church or Hospice of Southern Illinois.
