AVA – Vera June Cross, 87, passed away on Wednesday, February 28, 2024, at her home in Ava, Illinois.

Vera was born on July 5, 1936, in Ava, IL, the daughter of William St. Patrick and Ada Jane (Smith) Popejoy. She married James Logan Cross on December 10, 1960, in Murphysboro, IL. He preceded her in death on May 16, 1985. Vera was retired from Gilster Mary Lee and a homemaker. She was a member of Ava Missionary Baptist Church, Ava, IL.

Vera is survived by her children: James Kevin (Kristin) Cross of Percy, IL, Eric Wade (Heidi) Cross of Warren, MI, Sheila J. (William) Dammermann of Percy, IL, Kellie S. Gonzales of Ava, IL; her 11 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren, her sister, Wilma Cross and her sister-in-law, Barbara Phoenix.

Vera was also preceded in death by her parents, an infant grandson, John, Jr, a grandson, David, 2 brothers and 5 sisters.

Graveside services will be held on Friday, March 8, 2024, at 1:00 pm, at Ava Evergreen Cemetery, Ava, IL with Rev. Robert Spangler officiating.
