Obituary

STEELEVILLE – Vera G. Bergfeld, 93, of Centralia, formerly of Steeleville, passed away on Tuesday, February 27, 2018, at her home in Centralia.

The daughter of Henry and Marie (Main Schnoeker) Wilson, she was born June 3, 1924, in Bremen, Illinois.  Vera married Leland Bergfeld on June 20, 1953 at St. John's Lutheran Church in Bremen.  He preceded her in death on January 28, 2017.

Vera is survived by two daughters, Susan (Kurt) Williams of Centralia, and Debra (Mike) Faris of Maryville, MO; grandsons, Daniel Williams of Centralia and Matthew Williams of Champaign; niece, Karen Stumpe (Scott Bell) of Peoria; nephews, Mike Stumpe of Alton and Joe Stumpe (Carrie Rengers) of Wichita, KS; great nieces, Sarah and Lauren Bell of Chicago.  Devoted caregivers, Annice Roglon, BJ Simcox, Brenda Cannon, Deb Mudd, Jill Williams, Kisha Scott, Mica Scott, Nicole Wesley, and Sharronda Johnson also survive.  In addition to her husband, Vera was preceded in death by her Parents, sister, Dorothy Stumpe, infant sister, Caroline and several cousins.

Vera served as deputy assessor and treasurer of Randolph County, Illinois, worked as a bookkeeper for several local businesses, and retired from the First National Bank in Steeleville.  She was a member of Peace Lutheran Church of Steeleville and an associate member of Redeemer Lutheran Church of Centralia.  Vera taught Sunday School, volunteered in the church food pantry, was active in the Lutheran Church Women and was a girl scout leader.  She enjoyed baking, sewing, bowling and spending time with family.

Funeral service will be held at 11:00 am, Saturday, March 3, 2018 at Peace Lutheran Church in Steeleville with Pastor S. Blake Duncan officiating.  Interment will follow in Paradise Cemetery in Steeleville.  Friends may call from 9 am until 11 am at the church.  The preferred form of remembrance are memorials made to the Peace Lutheran Church Food Pantry or the Centralia Area Parkinson's Disease Support Group.
