GORHAM – Urban L. Butler, 88, of Gorham, passed away at 5:10 AM, Monday, April 13, 2020, at Manor Court in Carbondale.
Urban was born in Jackson County, Illinois, on September 15, 1931, the son of Frank and Julia Boucher Butler. He married Margaret L. Fromme on June 28, 1958, in Raddle. Urban was a Veteran of the US Navy serving from 1953-1956 aboard the USS Calvert, a Naval Supply Ship. Urban was retired from Grand Tower Power Plant, having worked from 1959 until 1994. After retiring, he enjoyed fishing, his garden and his grandchildren. He was a member of St. Ann Catholic Church, Raddle.
Urban is survived by his wife, Margaret Butler of Gorham; two sons, Terry (Tammy) Butler of Murphysboro and Jim (Misty) Butler of Murphysboro; grandchildren, Kyle Hoy, Melissa Smith, Dustin J. Butler and Karlie Butler; and two great grandchildren, Lucas Hoy and Oliver Hoy.
Urban was preceded in death by his Parents; five brothers; and one sister.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, private graveside services will be held, with burial at Goodbread Cemetery, Gorham. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Wilson's Funeral Home in Ava is assisting the family with the arrangements. Memorials may be given to St. Ann Catholic Church, Raddle or St. Andrew's Catholic School, Murphysboro, and can be mailed to the funeral home at, PO Box 277, Ava, IL 62907.
