STEELEVILLE – Treasure Smith, 88, passed away on Wednesday, November 27, 2024, at Mercy Hospital Southeast, Cape Girardeau, Missouri.
Treasure was born on September 12, 1936, in Steeleville, IL, the daughter of Wm Wilson H. and Elda (Gerlach) Rieckenberg. She married James W. Smith on November 12, 1955, in Steeleville, IL. He preceded her in death on February 6, 2009. Treasure was a homemaker and had also worked at Screenland Café, International Shoe Factory, Prim Hosiery, Zacheis Bus Service (for school and pool), Gilster Mary Lee Sugar Plant, Steeleville Grade School Cafeteria Worker, and Bridal Originals.
In addition to raising her family, Treasure was a Sunday School Teacher and enjoyed playing Dominos and Pinochle with friends. She was a member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church (Wine Hill) Steeleville, IL, the Lutheran Braille Workers, WELCA – Women of the Evangelical Church of America, University of Illinois Home Extension, Randolph County Election Judge, and she was the 1984 Randolph County Farm Wife of the Year.
Treasure is survived by her children: Diana Smith of Ft. Worth, TX, Jamie (Wayne) Keller of Steeleville, IL, Pennie (Dean) Saadallah of Arlington, TX; her grandchildren: Jacob (Christine) Smith, Ryan (Amanda) Wahlman, Brenda (Brad) Chandler Andrew (Kathleen) Keller, Melvin (Jessica) Keller, Hannah Saadallah; her great grandchildren: Lexi Smith, Holly Smith, Haylee Wahlman, Mason Koon, Andrew Keller Jr, Avery Keller, Sophia Bryant, Bentley Keller, Henry Keller, Jackson Keller; and her sister, Carmen Flanagan of Rancho Mirage, CA.
Treasure was also preceded in death by her parents, and a brother, Noel Rieckenberg.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, December 2, 2024, 11:00 am, at St. Peter's Lutheran Church, Wine Hill, with Rev. Michael Foppe officiating. Burial to follow at St. Peter's Lutheran Cemetery, Steeleville, IL. Visitation will be on Monday, December 2, 2024, where friends may call from 10:00 am until the time of service, at the church. Memorials may be given to St. Peter's Lutheran Cemetery Fund and can be mailed to Wilson's Funeral Home, P.O. Box 217, Steeleville, IL, 62288.
