IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Timothy D.
Beattie
February 3, 1960 – December 17, 2025
SPARTA– Timothy D. Beattie, 65, of Sparta, IL, passed away on Wednesday, December 17, 2025. He was born February 3, 1960, in Murphysboro, IL, to E. James and Ida Jean (Hawley) Beattie.
Tim was a devoted musician whose life was shaped by sound, rhythm, and the deep soul of country and blues music. For more than 50 years, Tim shared his talent on stages, in studios, and wherever musicians gathered, becoming especially known for his expressive harmonica playing, his singing and songwriting and his skill on lap steel guitar.
A true working musician, Tim played in numerous bands over the decade's most notably Footloose, Ritz Brothers, Marry Me Jane, Redneck Buddah and Smokey Lonesome. He even played for our soldiers abroad on the USO tour. His harmonica could cry, laugh, and tell stories, while his lap steel added a signature voice that reflected his deep respect for traditional country and blues.
Music was more than a hobby for Tim; it was how he connected with people. Whether performing live, jamming with friends, or talking about songs and players he loved, he carried a genuine appreciation for the craft and its history. His presence in the local music scene spanned generations, and his influence will continue to echo through the musicians who shared a stage with him.
Tim will be remembered not only for his musical ability, but for the joy, authenticity, and soul he brought to every note he played. His music lives in the memories of those who heard him and the countless songs he helped bring to life.
Tim was preceded in death by his father, Smilin' Jim Beattie, his mother Ida Jean, nee Hawley, Beattie and his brother James "Jim" W. Beattie.
Surviving are his son Justin Beattie, grandson Justin James, nephew Jimmy (Meghan) Beattie, great niece Eden Beattie, countless friends and last but not least, his beloved dog Boomer.
