SPARTA – Thomas C. Soderlund, 77, of Sparta, passed away at 9:45 pm, Thursday, June 28, 2018, at St. Elizabeth's Hospital in O'Fallon, Illinois.

Thomas was born in Renton, Washington, on December 5, 1940, the son of Carl Arthur and Martha Isaacson Soderlund.  He married Gail E. Huber on November 11, 1961 in Perryville, Missouri.  He was a retired meat cutter for Kroger in Sparta.  Thomas was a veteran of the US Army, having served from 1959-1962.  He was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, Sparta and Knights of Columbus Council #6577, Sparta.

Thomas is survived by his wife, Gail E. Soderlund of Sparta; his children, Lauri Soderlund of Sparta, Lynne (Brian) Jones of Sparta, Diana Anderson of Sparta, Robert (Marcie) Soderlund of Sparta, Richard (Jessica) Soderlund of Sparta, Stephen Soderlund of Woodlawn, IL, and Angela (Matt) Tatum of Highland, IL; 14 grandchildren, Danielle and Alyssa Anderson, Zach and Emma Adams, Tommy and Mollie Soderlund, Jayden Jones, Jacob, Kaitlyn and Luke Soderlund, Brianna, Cody, and Caleb Soderlund and Lillian Dawson; one great granddaughter, Kinsely Kennedy; and one brother, Karl Soderlund of Pawling, NY.

Thomas was preceded in death by his Parents; one sister Anna Gjertsen; and one brother, Jack Soderlund.

Funeral mass will be held at 10:00 am, Monday, July 2, 2018, at the Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Sparta with Father Vincent Mukasa officiating.  Burial will follow at Caledonia Cemetery in Sparta. Visitation will be at the church on Sunday from 5 pm until 8 pm and then on Monday from 9 am until 10 am.  Memorials may be given to Masses or Randolph County Relay for Life.
