SPARTA – Thomas L. McIntosh, 80, of Sparta, passed away Tuesday, November 23, 2021, at John Cochran VA Medical Center, St. Louis, MO.

Thomas was born September 12, 1941, in West Frankfort, IL, to Aston "Bud" and Fairy Dare McIntosh. He married Gayla O'Neal on July 3, 1965, in Wood River, IL. Gayla preceded him in death on March 1, 2018. Thomas was a U.S. Army Veteran, and a retired coal miner from Peabody Coal Company, Baldwin underground mine. He was a member of Steeleville Baptist Church, Steeleville, IL, and UMWA, Local #1820, Baldwin, IL.

Thomas is survived by his children: Michelle Forsythe of Lenzburg, IL, Michael (Lori) McIntosh of Sparta, IL, Tony (Mary) McIntosh of Detroit, MI; six grandchildren: Makayla Lappin, Austin Goodman, Ryan Wittenborn, Tyler Wittenborn, Nicohel Russell, Kyle McIntosh; and numerous great grandchildren.

Thomas is also preceded in death by his parents, one brother and two sisters.

Funeral services will be held at 4:00 pm, Sunday, November 28, 2021, at Steeleville Baptist Church, Steeleville, IL, with Rev. Matt Collins and Rev. Dr. Scott Foshie officiating. Visitation will be at Steeleville Baptist Church, where friends may call from 2 - 4 pm. Interment will be held at Jefferson National Barracks Cemetery, St. Louis, MO, Monday, November 29, 2021, 11:00 am. Memorials may be given to Steeleville Baptist Church.
