AVA, Thomas D. McDaniel, 70, of Ava, passed away at 7:50 PM Friday, May 15, 2015, at his home in Ava, Illinois. He was born November 5, 1944 in Granite City, Illinois the son of Robert and Ruth (Holder) McDaniel. Thomas married Wanda Bennett on March 15, 1980 in Murphysboro, IL. Tom was retired from the Illinois Department of Transportation as Highway Maintenance. He was a member of the U.S. Army from 1962-1965. Tom was a member of Ava Missionary Baptist Church where he taught the Adult Sunday School Class for several years. He enjoyed gardening, mushroom hunting and spending time with his family. He is survived by his wife: Wanda McDaniel, Ava, IL; Children: Sarah Guy, Ava, IL and Bob (Whitney) McDaniel; Grandson: Brayden Guy; Sisters-in-law: Helen McDaniel, Murphysboro, IL, Faye McDaniel, Murphysboro, IL and Betty McDaniel, Troy, IL; many nieces and nephews. Thomas is preceded in death by his parents, Sister, Roberta Ellis and 3 Brothers: Ted McDaniel, Fred McDaniel and Jack McDaniel. Funeral services will be held Monday, May 18, 2015 at 6:00 PM at Wilson's Funeral Home, Ava, Illinois with Rev. Robert Boyett officiating. Visitation will be at Wilson's Funeral Home on Monday, where friends may call from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM. Memorials may be made to Hospice of Southern Illinois or Ava Missionary Baptist Church.
