PERCY – Thomas J. McCrary, 90, of Percy, passed away on Friday, May 17, 2024, at the Memorial Hospital in Belleville.

Thomas was born in Steeleville, Illinois, on November 21, 1933, the son of Thomas S. and Thakla L. Boyer McCrary. He was a retired Painter. Thomas served as a Steeleville Village police officer in his early years and enjoyed coal mining for a few years. Thomas was a Veteran of the US Navy during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of Steeleville Methodist Church, Kaskaskia VFW Post #3553, Chester, and BBK American Legion Post #480, Steeleville. Thomas was an avid baker of cookies, angel food cake and he enjoyed watching Cardinals baseball.

Thomas is survived by one son, Neil (Julie) McCrary of San Antonio, TX; dear friend, Edna McDaniels of Steeleville; and several nieces and nephews.

Thomas was preceded in death by his Parents; one sister, Norma; one brother, Valley; and one half brother, Ralph Schaeffer.

Funeral service will be held on Wednesday, May 22, 2024, at 1:00 pm, at Wilson's Funeral Home, Steeleville, with Rev. James Tinzmann officiating. Burial will follow at Steeleville City Cemetery. Visitation will be at Wilson's Funeral Home, Steeleville, where friends may call from 11 am until the hour of service. Memorials may be given to the American Diabetes Association.
