JACOB - Thelma Marie (Fehringer) Mifflin, 98, of Jacob, passed away Wednesday, September 30, 2009, at the Rehab and Care Center in Murphysboro. Thelma was born December 1, 1910 in Jacob, the daughter of Charles and Chloe McBride Fehringer. She married Andrew Mifflin, November 27, 1927 at the Methodist Church, in Murphysboro, they were married 62 years. He preceded her in death on December 7, 1989. Thelma taught school for 32 years, at Gorham, and other country schools in Jackson County. Her first school was by the big levee on Potato Bend, close to Jones Ridge. She had to walk the levee to get there, plus building the fire, keeping the fire going, and had eight levels of grades, to take care for. She taught Talbot School in 1948, along the Keller Highway, later to Logan Hollow, Jacob, and her last several years were at Gorham. She is survived by a daughter-in-law, Melba J. Mifflin of Murphysboro; granddaughter, Machelle Mifflin of Murphysboro; great grandchildren Meghan Marie (Jeremy) Blechle of Ellis Grove, IL, Morgan Michelle, Mikah Mackensey, and Macie Mariah Mifflin, of Murphysboro; great great grandchildren, Aidan and Alex Blechle of Ellis Grove, IL; and also including Tom Dunn Family. She was preceded in death by her parents; one son, D. Joe Mifflin, one grandson, James; an adopted daughter, Johanna Dunn and her son, Joe Dunn; two brothers; and three sisters. Funeral service will be at Wilson's Funeral Home, Ava, on Saturday, October 3, 2009, at 3:00 p.m. Burial will follow at Ava Evergreen Cemetery. Visitation will be at the funeral home from 2 to 3 p.m. Memorials may be given to Electra and Ruth Chapter #379 Order of the Eastern Star, Murphysboro or TIP Hospice.
