STEELEVILLE – Shan Thomas, 72, of Steeleville passed away at 5:38 PM, Saturday, April 25, 2020 at his home.

Shan was born on August 14, 1947, in Coulterville, the son of Henry Franklin and Flossie M. (Rainey) Thomas. He was an Army Veteran of the Vietnam Conflict receiving two Purple Hearts. Shan married Connie R. Bowlin on August 29, 1969, at the First Baptist Church of Sparta. Shan was a retired coal miner from the Old Ben Coal Mine, Sparta after having been a miner for 40 plus years. He was a member of the Steeleville Baptist Church, and was an avid outdoors man including hunting and fishing.

Shan is survived by his wife; Connie R. Thomas, of Steeleville, children; Tracey Thomas, of Old Rilpey, Illinois, Matthew Thomas, of Chester, and Carrie Buss, of Highland, Illinois, 8 grandchildren, and 5 great grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister; Marlene Thomas, of Coulterville.

Mr. Thomas was preceded in death by his parents, and 1 sister; Flossie.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, private graveside services will be held, with burial at the Caledonia Cemetery, Sparta. Memorials may be made to the Steeleville Baptist Church. Wilson's Funeral Home in Steeleville is assisting the family with the arrangements.
