JACOB – Ruth Marie Vogel, 96, passed away on Sunday, June 18, 2023, at Independence Care Center, Perryville, MO.

Ruth was born on September 2, 1926, the daughter of Fred and Marie (Zerbst) Rathjen. She married Charles Frederick Vogel on February 16, 1946, at Christ Lutheran Church, Jacob, IL. He preceded her in death on September 11, 1997. Ruth had worked at Brown Shoe Factory and as a farmer. She was a member of Christ Lutheran Church, Jacob, IL.

Ruth is survived by her son, Larry Vogel of Murphysboro, IL, her daughter, Connie (Charles) Mattingly of Perryville, MO, her grandchildren: Charles C. (Misty) Mattingly, Christina (Eric) Paisley, Corinne (Stephanie) Vogel, Benjamin Vogel; her step-granddaughter, Nichole Smelter, her nine great grandchildren, seven step-great grandchildren, six step-great great grandchildren, her brother, Oliver Rathjen of Murphysboro, IL, her sister-in-law, Juanita (Raymond) Hollmann of Fairview Heights, IL, brother-in-law, Harold (Ernsting) Vogel of Atlanta, GA, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Ruth was also preceded in death by her parents, son, Lyle Vogel, one great grandchild, one brother, Erwin (Freddie)Rathjen

Funeral services will be held on Friday, June 23, 2023, at 11:30 am, at Christ Lutheran Church, Jacob, IL, with Rev. Robert Gray officiating. Burial will follow at Christ Lutheran Church, Gorham, IL. Visitation will be at Christ Lutheran Church, Jacob, IL, where friends may call from 10:00 to 11:30 am, on Friday.
