STEELEVILLE - Ruth L. Hampton, 93, of Steeleville, passed away at 1:31 am, Tuesday, March 11, 2014 at the Randolph County Care Center in Sparta, Illinois. Ruth was born in Percy, Illinois on December 22, 1920, the daughter of Frederick W. and Lydia M. Hartel Meierhoff. She married Ralph R. Hampton on November 20, 1941 at the St. Mark's Lutheran Church, Steeleville, Illinois. He preceded her in death on August 30, 2009. She was a retired Manager from the Dime Store. Ruth was a member of the St. Mark's Lutheran Church in Steeleville and a former member of the St. Mark's Priscilla Club. Ruth is survived by two daughters, Donna (C.O.) Bannister of Sparta and Mary Lynn (Glenn) Gerlach of Steeleville; five grandchildren, Carla Bannister-Long, Tara Byington, Tricia Funston, Garrett Gerlach and Andy Gerlach; and ten great grandchildren. Ruth was also preceded in death by her parents; two granddaughters, Kendra Bannister and Melissa M. Sauerwein; one brother, Harold "Butch" Meierhoff; and one sister, Aurelia VanDeer. Funeral service will be at 11:00 am, Monday, March 17, 2014 at the St. Mark's Lutheran Church in Steeleville with Rev. Dr. Alan W. Janneke officiating. Burial will follow in Paradise Cemetery, Steeleville. Visitation will be at Wilson's Funeral Home, Steeleville, where friends may call from 5 to 8 pm Sunday and on Monday from 7:30 am until 9 am then from 10 am until 11 am at the church. Memorials may be given to St. Mark's Lutheran Church or the Activity Fund at The Manor at Craig Farms.
