Roy Lee Massey, of Steeleville, IL formerly of Checotah, OK, passed away peacefully at Randolph County Care Center in Sparta, IL, on Friday, April 24, 2026 at the age of 84.

Roy was born in Bear Creek, AL to Richard M. and Velma J. (Mann) Massey on January 24, 1942. Roy married Pamela Redman on October 3, 1959, and they had 5 children together. The two later divorced but remained close throughout their lives. Roy married Mary Patricia “Patty” Zerngast on May 31, 1978. Patty preceded him death on February 22, 2026. Roy drove trucks for many companies over the years. He and Patty also ran their own trucking company RPM Ventures for several years before he retired. After retiring, he filled some of his free time driving for Mike Anderson Trucking of Checotah, OK.

Roy is survived by his 2 sons, Ricky (Crystal) Massey of Parma, MO, and Timothy K. Massey of Steeleville, IL, and 2 daughters, Misty (Mike) Smith of Steeleville, IL, and Madina (Randy) Vogel of Steeleville, IL, and daughter-in-law, Lynn Massey (Heath) of Harrah, OK; 22 Grandchildren, LaDawn Massey of Malden, MO, Lauren Massey of Claremore, OK, Meagan Massey of Claremore, OK, Zackary Meador of Tallapoosa, MO, Wyatt McCulloch of Portageville, MO, Emma Grace Patterson of Parma, MO, Michael Massey of Owasso, OK, Toni (Drew) French of Hayworth, WI, Morgan Cusack of Moore, OK, Cori Shown of Tulsa, OK, Sarah (Benjamin) Wilbourn of Lindsay, OK, Timothy L. Massey (Lindsey) of Jacksonville, NC, Michaela Smith of Steeleville, IL, Makenzie (Dylan) McCoy of O’Fallon, IL, Brandan (Shelby) Renner of Sparta, IL, Kendra Vogel of Wichita, KS, Allanah (Seth) Troue of Steeleville, IL, Sean (Britt) Renner of Sparta, IL, Faith (Alex) Nesel of Tampa, FL; 28 great-grandchildren with 3 on the way, and 2 great-great-grandchildren, brother, Richard Massey of Poplar Bluff, MO, brothers-in-law, John (Jo) Zerngast of Olath, KS and David (Jan) Zerngast of Gulf Shores, AL, and sister-in-law, Carol Leonard of Columbia, MO and a multitude of cousins, nieces and nephews and a lifetime of good friends and neighbors. 

Roy was preceded in death by his parents, son, Tony Massey, sisters, Betty Pruitt and Donna Pruitt, brothers, Joyce Ray Massey and Wayne Massey, and sisters-in-law, Jimmie Nell Massey and Linda Massey, and ex-wife, Pam.

It was Roy’s wish to be cremated. Memorials may be given to the American Heart Association and can be mailed to Wilson’s Funeral Home, P.O. Box 217, Steeleville, IL 62288.
