STEELEVILLE, Roger A. "Shorty" Schroeder, 80, of Steeleville, passed away at 11:54 AM Friday, April 20, 2012, at Memorial Hospital in Chester, Illinois. Roger was born March 21, 1932 in Chester, Illinois the son of Ludwig and Emma Hartenberger Schroeder. He married Jean Schnoeker on May 23, 1953 at St. Mark's Lutheran Church, Steeleville. He retired from World Color Press in Sparta.. Roger was a veteran of the US Army, having served during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of the St. Mark's Lutheran Church, Steeleville and was a former trustee. He volunteered at St. Mark's Lutheran School for 16 years. Roger was also a member of the B.B.K. American Legion Post #480 in Steeleville, Kaskaskia VFW Post #3553 in Chester, a charter member of the Steeleville Eagles Aeries #3960 in Steeleville, a former member of the Steeleville Fire Department and the Steeleville Village Council. He was active in various community organizations. Roger is survived by his wife, Jean Schroeder of Steeleville; one son, Rick (Jean) Schroeder of Steeleville and Lori (Jamey) Fletcher of Steeleville; daughter-in-law, Debra (Sid) Rathert of Campbell Hill, IL; 10 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; sister, Ruth (Harold) Tiller of Steeleville; and several nieces and nephews. Roger is preceded in death by his parents; one son, Gary Schroeder; three brothers and one sister. Funeral services will be held Monday, April 23, 2012 at 2:00 PM at St. Mark's Lutheran Church , Illinois with Rev. Dr. Alan W. Janneke officiating. Burial will follow in Paradise Cemetery, Steeleville, IL. Visitation will be at St. Mark's Lutheran Church on Sunday from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM and on Monday from 7:30 AM to 2:00 PM. Memorials may be made to St. Mark's Lutheran Church Memorial Fund, St. Mark's Lutheran School Memorial Fund, or the American Heart Association.
