WILLISVILLE - Roger Rice, 65, department this life on Wednesday, August 1, 2012 at the Memorial Hospital in Carbondale. Mr. Rice was born July 7, 1947 in Newport News, VA, the son of Frederick Rice and Leah (nee Eldridge, Keller) Rice Vanover. He was united in marriage to Judi McCollum on August 30, 1967 in Pinckneyville. Roger worked at the Spartan Printing Company in Sparta for 27 years. He served in the Army in the Vietnam Conflict from 1965 through 1968. He loved spending time with his grandchildren, hunting and fishing in his retirement. Left to mourn his passing are his wife, Judi Rice of Willisville; two children, Christine (John) tanner of Campbell Hill and Karen (Jim) Rains of Chester; three sisters, Donna Phelps of Rockwood, IL, Carol Holley of Chester and Kathy Dallas of Fort Wayne, IN; a brother, Tommy Earl Vanover of Chester; five grandchildren, Austin and Anthony Carter, Dominic and Mercedes Tanner and Nathaniel Rains; and nieces, nephews, other relation and friends. Roger was preceded in death by a daughter, Kathi; mother, Leah Vanover; father, Fred Rice; and his grandparents. Memorial service will be held at 11:00 am, Saturday, August 4, 2012 at the Wilson's Funeral Home in Steeleville with Sister Rachel Castillo officiating. Burial will be in I.O.O.F. Cemetery in DuQuoin. Visitation will be at Wilson's Funeral Home, Steeleville, where friends may call from 9 to 11 am Saturday. Memorials may be given to Coach Kill Cancer Fund or Kidney Foundation.
