PERCY – Roger A. Diercks, 81, of Percy, passed away on Friday, September 18, 2020, at Sparta Community Hospital, Sparta, Illinois.
Roger was born in Welge, Illinois, on September 1, 1939, the son of Edward and Minnie Herschbach Diercks. He married Edith E. Steinheimer on August 11, 1962, at St. John's Lutheran Church in Chester, Illinois. Roger was in the Army for 2 years and retired as an underground coal miner from Baldwin Coal Mine, Baldwin, Illinois. He was a member of BBK American Legion Post #480, Steeleville, Illinois, UMWA Local #1820 and the Boat Club in Chester, Illinois. Roger was a volunteer fireman of Percy Fire Department for 30 years. He was a member of St. Marks Lutheran Church in Steeleville, Illinois.
Roger is survived by his wife, Edith Steinheimer Diercks of Percy, Illinois. Children; Susan Diercks of Percy, Illinois, Robert (Dawn) Diercks of Percy, Illinois, Rhonda Smith (Matthew Ingram) of Percy, Illinois, and Kevin (Christine) Diercks of Fort Wayne, Indiana. Ten grandchildren; Jerod (Matt), Nathan, Tricia, Kindra, Austin, Ryan, Kyle, Sarah, Kimberly and Curtis. Roger was expecting his first great grandchild. Sister, LaVerne Morrison of Chester, Illinois. Sister-in-laws; Irene Diercks of Red Bud, Illinois and Janette Bayer of New Athens, Illinois. Brother–in-law, Arthur (Lola) Steinheimer of Sparta, Illinois.
Roger was preceded in death by his Parents. Two brothers; Gilbert and Elmer Diercks. Sisters; Marie Koch and Esther Miller.
Graveside service will be held at 1:00 pm, Tuesday, September 22, 2020, at Paradise Cemetery, Steeleville, with Reverend Mark Harris officiating. Burial will follow. Memorials may be given to Marion VA Activity Fund, donor's choice. By executive order, face masks are required, and social distancing guidelines must be followed.
