AVA – Roberta Faye Edgar, 87, of Ava, passed away at 8:57 pm, Wednesday, July 2, 2025, at Memorial Hospital in Carbondale.

Roberta was born in Pinckneyville, Illinois, on December 5, 1937, the daughter of Herman Otto and Retta Belle Glover Kuhnert. She married John Cecil Edgar on August 25, 1956 in Cutler, Illinois. He preceded her in death on May 15, 2024. Roberta was a bus driver for Trico School District. Roberta was a member of Denmark Baptist Church, Cutler. She attended VanBrunt Grade School and she was a graduate of Pinckneyville High School Class of 1955 and was voted Most Athletic of her Senior class. Roberta started the first girl's softball team in Ava.

Roberta is survived by her children: John Douglas (Nancy) Edgar of Ava, IL, Kim (Kevin) Taylor of Murphysboro, IL, Tonia Purcell of Ava, IL; her grandchildren: Amie (Duane Taguacta) Bollmann, Alisa Knowles, Tiffany Taylor, John Curtis (Kiersten) Edgar, Rachel (Stephen Teng) Edgar; her great grandchildren: Aidin Taguacta, Austin Knowles, Ava Knowles, John Luke Edgar, Olivia Edgar, Aurora Edgar, Taylor Clemmons, Skylar Easton; and her sister, Melba Jean (Maury) Bouas of Kansas City, MO.

Roberta was also preceded in death by her Parents; brothers, Carl, Roy, Robert & Melvin Kuhnert; and sisters, Ida Belle Beckman, Lois Morganstern, and twin sister, Alberta Kuhnert.

Funeral services will be on Saturday, July 5, 2025, at 11:00 am, at Wilson's Funeral Home, Ava, IL, with Pastor Marty DeRoche officiating. Burial to follow at Ava Evergreen Cemetery, Ava, IL. Visitation will be held on Saturday, July 5, 2025, at Wilson's Funeral Home, Ava, IL, where friends may call from 9:30 am until 11 am. Memorials may be given to St. Louis Children's Hospital.
