AVA, Robert A Smith, 88, of Ava, passed away at 11:00 P.M. Friday, October 08, 2010, at Memorial Hospital of Carbondale in Carbondale, IL. Robert was born May 30, 1922 in Cutler, Illinois the son of Dorris C. Smith and Viola (Lipe) Smith. Robert married Helen Louise Uhles on August 19, 1944 in Denmark Baptist Church, Cutler. Robert was very active in numerous churches in the community. Robert was a retired bus driver from Trico School District after over 40 years. Robert is survived by his wife Helen Louise Smith of Ava; children, Selma Lou (Dennis) Zimmerman of Ava, Verl Lynn (Rick) Reiman of Ava; one grandson, Jason Hahs; great grandchildren, Jace & Jesse Hahs; step grandchildren, Lori & Daniel Zimmerman; step great grandchildren, Trey & Jacob Zimmerman; and one sister, Martha Jane Svanda of Sparta. Robert was preceded in death by his parents; one sister: Geraldine Smith; and two brothers, Nelson & Benton Smith. Funeral services will be held Monday, October 11, 2010 at 11:00 A.M. at Wilson's Funeral Home in Ava with Rev. Clayton Yoakum officiating. Burial will follow at Ava Evergreen Cemetery. Visitation will be held at Wilson's Funeral Home, Ava on Sunday from 5 to 8 pm and on Monday from 7:30 am until 11 am. Memorials may be made to Teen Challenge of Cape Girardeau or to his church.
