JACOB – Robert Martin Saupe, 95, of Jacob, passed away on Monday, December 8, 2025, at 2:40 pm, in Memorial Hospital of Carbondale.
Robert was born on October 1, 1930, at home on Saupe Road in Murphysboro, the son of Fred Saupe and Erna (Roth) Saupe. Robert "Bob" was a farmer from birth. He graduated from Murphysboro Township High School in 1948. He was sworn in to the National Guard the night of his Jr./Sr. prom. He served active duty for two years (1952-1953) in Japan during the Korean War. He supervised and prepared daily meals for thousands of American and International soldiers. Robert served a total of six years in the National Guard. He married Rose Mary Cochran on October 16, 1954, sharing 70 years of marriage. She preceded him in death on March 25, 2025.
Robert has been a member of Christ Lutheran Church in Jacob since 1962. Before his death, he was the oldest member of the congregation. He joined and provided leadership in many area organizations. Robert was always supportive as he enjoyed his daughters' accomplishments in school and beyond. He then moved on to encouraging his grandchildren's endeavors.
Robert is survived by his three daughters: Diane (Dale) Korando of Jacob, Janice (Robert) Crain of Ava, Paula Vogel (Jim Hand) of Murphysboro; eight grandchildren: Nichole (Craig) Smelter, Adam (Cassie) Korando, Shannon (Cody) Rieckenberg, Kimberly Korando (Steven Mikel), Corinne (Stephanie) Vogel, Harley (Olivia) Hand, Brandon (Amelia) Crain, Benjamin Vogel; nine great grandchildren: Grace, Sophie, Thatcher, Berklee, Ryan, Emmett, Carter, Carsyn, Hudson; one sister, Ruth Boese of Murphysboro; and was called "Uncle Bob" by numerous nieces and nephews.
Robert was also preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Ruben.
Funeral services will be held Monday, December 15, 2025, at 12:00 noon, at Christ Lutheran Church, Jacob, with Rev. Gunner Campbell officiating. Burial to follow at Murdale Garden of Memory, Murphysboro. Visitation will be on Monday morning, where friends may call from 10:00 am until time of service at the church. Memorials may be given to Christ Lutheran Church, Jacob can be mailed to Wilson's Funeral Home, P.O. Box 277, Ava, IL 62907.
