Robert L. Levan AVA, Robert L. Levan, 82, of Ava, passed away at 8:30 P.M. Wednesday, June 25, 2008, at his home in Ava, IL. Robert was born January 27, 1926 in Ava, Illinois the son of John Levan and Iva (Casey) Levan. He married Jewel E. Tope on August 13, 1950 in Ava, Illinois. He was a farmer and he started the Vinyard business in 1982 and was very active in the Promotion of grapes and was a pioneer in the industry. He was a navy veteran of WWII. he was a member of the First Christian Church in Murphysboro and the Pleasant Hill Christian Church in Murphysboro. Also a member of the Alma Lodge #497 A.F. &A.M. of Steeleville, B.B. K. American Legion Post #480 of Steeleville, Jackson County Farm Bureau, IGGVA of Illinois and Missouri, U.M.W. of A. Local #1392 and a former Member of Trico School Board for 20 years. He is survived by his wife Jewel Levan of Ava, Illinois; one son, Mike Levan of Ava; one daughter Gayla (Mark) Bradley of Steeleville; five grandchildren, Anissa Falmer, Eric Gustafson, John Shaun, Andrea Westerfield and Chelsea Bradley; four great grandchildren, Rawley and Brooks Falmer and Audrey Jean and Josephine Jewel Gustafson; one sister, Billy (Donald) Thompson of Park Forrest, IL; in-laws, June and Jim Jeffers, Barbara and Glen Heiple, Beverly Bryant, DeFlaine and Irvin Phoenix and Margie and Ron Heiman. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, June 28, 2008 at 1:00 P.M. at the Wilson's Funeral Home in Ava. Rev Dee Armes will be officiating. Burial will be at Pleasant Hill Christian Cemetery in Murphysboro, Illinois. Visitation will be held at Wilson's Funeral Home, Ava on Friday, where friends may call from 5-8 PM and on Saturday from 7:30am until hour of service. Masonic service will held on Friday at the funeral home at 8 pm Memorials may be made to Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Pleasant Hill Christian Church or the First Christian Church.
