MURPHYSBORO – Robert D. Korando, 86, of Murphysboro, Illinois, formerly of Ava, Illinois, passed away at 10:50 am, Friday, March 1, 2019, at Memorial Hospital in Carbondale.

Robert was born in Fort Gage, Illinois, on September 6, 1932, the son of Andrew J. and Myrtle Wilson Korando.  He married Betty Lou Higgs on July 31, 1954 in Murphysboro.  She preceded him in death on November 6, 1999.  Bob retired as a Manager Program Analyst from McDonald-Douglas in St. Louis, Missouri.  He was a veteran of the US Air Force, having served from 1955 until 1959.  Bob was a member of St. Peter's United Church of Christ in Murphysboro, Ducks Unlimited in Chester, Trico Lions Club and Alma Lodge #497 A.F. & A.M. in Steeleville.

Bob is survived by one son, Kevin (Gloria) Korando of Midlothian, TX; one son-in-law, Keith Wooden of O'Fallon, MO; two granddaughters, Ashley (Brad) Whitrock of St. Peters, MO and Heather Wooden of Angleton, TX; two great granddaughters, Emma Grace and Ava Lynn; special friends, Camilla Rose of Murphysboro, Ted and Cheryl Rose and Family and Cami and Mike Horn and Family.

Bob was also preceded in death by his Parents; one sister, Mary Jones; one infant brother, John and two additional brothers, Fred and Sam Korando; and one daughter, Tara.

Funeral service will be held at 10:00 am, Wednesday, March 6, 2019, at Wilson's Funeral Home, Ava, with Rev. P.K. Sunny officiating.  Burial will follow at Ava Evergreen Cemetery, Ava.  Visitation will be at Wilson's Funeral Home, Ava, where friends may call from 5 pm until 8 pm Tuesday and on Wednesday from 7:30 am until 10 am.  Memorials may be given to St. Peter's United Church of Christ.
