MURPHYSBORO – Robert Barker, 58, of Murphysboro and formerly of Cahokia passed away at 8:56 AM, Saturday, September 21, 2019, at the Memorial Hospital of Carbondale.

Robert was born on February 14, 1961, in East St. Louis, Illinois the son of John Eugene and Rita Janet (Hohe) Barker. He married Mary Claire Lyons, on June 2, 1990 at St. Henrys Catholic Church in Belleville. Robert taught diesel mechanics at the high school and college level. He was a member of the Holy Family Catholic Church, Cahokia, Illinois, and the Knights of Columbus, Cahokia.

Robert is survived by his wife; Mary Claire Barker, of Murphysboro, 1 son; Cpl Jonathan (Brittany) Barker, Military Police, of Fort Stewart, Georgia. Brother; Kenneth Barker, and sister; Catherine James.

Mr. Barker was preceded in death by his parents.

It was Mr. Barker's wishes to be cremated and there will be no services held at this time. Wilson's Funeral Home in Ava is assisting the family with the arrangements.
