STEELEVILLE – Robert W. “Bob” Appel, 81, of Steeleville, passed away at 7:17 pm, Friday, September 18, 2026, at Memorial Hospital in Carbondale.

Robert was born in Sparta, Illinois, on July 16, 1945, the son of Jacob and Puley Pierce Appel. He married Linda L. Husband on September 4, 1971, in Carbondale. She preceded him in death on January 19, 2023. Bob retired from Menard Correctional Center as a Guard, prior to working at Menard, he worked at Streamline and Captain Mines. He was a member of Steeleville Baptist Church, Steeleville, Illinois. Bob and Linda were huge supporters of Wee Care of Jacob.

Bob is survived by a daughter, Sara (Bryan White) Appel of Jackson, MO; a son, Marc (Jaydee) Appel of Steeleville; a granddaughter, Caitlyn; and two sisters, Madeline Bergfield of Sparta, IL and Evelyn Richmond of Cutler, IL.

Bob was preceded in death his parents; two brothers, Lloyd and Carl Appel; one sister, Bertha Russell; and an infant brother.

Funeral service will be held on Saturday, September 26, 2026, at 11:00 am, at Wilson’s Funeral Home, Steeleville. Burial will follow at Mt. Summit Cemetery, Rockwood, Illinois. Visitation will be at Wilson’s Funeral Home, Steeleville, where friends may call on Friday from 5 pm until 7 pm and on Saturday from 7:30 am until 11 am.
