Obituary
ROCKWOOD – Rick Edward Shepard, 65, of Rockwood, passed away at 1:36 am, Sunday, November 12, 2017 at his home, surrounded by his loving family.
Rick was born in Murphysboro, Illinois, on June 28, 1952, the son of Jack Edward and Lola LaVerne Bova Shepard. He married Marietta Korando on September 2, 1972 at St. Ann's Catholic Church in Raddle. He was a Retired Warden from the Illinois Department of Corrections. Rick was a member of St. Ann's Catholic Church, Raddle; Elks Lodge #572, Murphysboro; Knights of Columbus #3790, Chester; and Eagles Aeries 3252, Chester. Rick played Minor League Baseball for the St. Louis Cardinals.
Rick is survived by his wife, Marietta Shepard of Rockwood; two sons, Gabe Shepard of Rockwood and Keith (Samantha) Shepard of Grand Tower, IL; grandsons, Trenton and Tripp Shepard; step grandchildren, Kyle Shirley, Payton Trammel and Taylor Trammel; sister, Sandy Leonard of Troy, IL; sisters-in-law, Kathryn Wilson of Jacob, Patricia (Mike) Barone of Rockwood, and Teresa (Joseph) Bastien of Murphysboro; brothers-in-law, Gary (Pam) Korando of Ava, Brian Korando of Jacob and Dale (Diane) Korando of Jacob; numerous nieces and nephews, numerous great nieces and great nephews, and two great great nephews.
Rick was preceded in death by his Parents and mother-in-law and father-in-law, James and Pearl Korando.
Funeral mass will be held at 10:00 am, Wednesday, November 15, 2017 at St. Ann's Catholic Church, Raddle, with Father Gary Gummersheimer officiating. Burial will follow in Ava Evergreen Cemetery. Visitation will be at Wilson's Funeral Home, Ava, where friends may call from 5 pm until 8 pm Tuesday and on Wednesday from 7:30 am until 9 am. Memorials may be given to Wee Care of Jacob or Chester Knights of Columbus.
