SPARTA – Richard V. Jones, 76, of Sparta, passed away at 9:02 am, Saturday, November 19, 2022, at his home.

Richard was born in Sparta, Illinois, on October 22, 1946, the son of Ivan and Vancile Glenn Jones.  He married Edith Klausing on August 3, 1968, in Sparta, Illinois.  She preceded him in death on April 25, 2018.  Richard was a Police Officer in Sparta from 1992 until 2008, and in Percy from 1986 until 1992.  He was a veteran of the US Army.  He served during the Vietnam Conflict until his discharge in 1970.  Richard was a member of the Calvary Church in Sparta, and a lifetime member of the VFW Post #2698 in Sparta.  He loved hunting and fishing with his family.

Richard is survived by children, LaDonna (Danny) Laramore of Chester, Rachele (Joe) Yarborough of Woodriver, IL, and Ralph (Melinda) Jones of Sparta; 8 grandchildren, Steve Laramore, Danielle Davis, Beth Hayes, Brandon Yarborough, Kolton Jones, Caleb Yarborough, Abby Yarborough, and Sophia Jewel; and 6 great grandchildren, Jace, Wyatt, Aspen, Gracelyn, Bryton and Logan.

Richard was also preceded in death by his Parents; two brothers, Ronald Jones and Ralph Jones; and one sister, Sharon Richard.

Funeral service will be held on Tuesday, November 22, 2022, at 11:00 am, at Calvary Church in Sparta, with Rev. Tim McIntyre officiating.  Burial will follow at Caledonia Cemetery, Sparta.  Visitation will be at Calvary Church in Sparta on Monday from 5 pm until 8 pm, and on Tuesday from 9 am until 11 am.  Memorials may be given to the Family.
