CHESTER – Richard L. Hohgrefe, 78, of Chester, passed away at home on Wednesday, June 24, 2020.

Richard was born in Chester, Illinois, on November 24, 1941, the son of the late Hugo and Margaret Zimmer Hohgrefe.  He married Shirley Stallmann on June 17, 1967, at St. John's Lutheran Church, Chester.  He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Bremen.  Richard was retired from Gilster Mary Lee.

Richard is survived by his wife, Shirley Hohgrefe of Chester; two sons, Jonathan (Becky) Hohgrefe of Belleville, IL and James (Jamie) Hohgrefe of Baldwin, IL; grandchildren, Suzanna (Klint) BeDell, Deanna Hohgrefe, Landon Hohgrefe, Dakota Hohgrefe and Seth Hohgrefe; great granddaughter, Brookelee BeDell; two sisters, June James of Chester and Marcella Kontz of Chester; and many nieces and nephews and great nieces and great nephews.

Richard was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Ruth Lawless; and brother, Robert Hohgrefe.

Due to the COVID 19 pandemic, private service will be held at St. John's Lutheran Church, Bremen, with Rev. Dr. Edwin W. Reuter officiating.  Burial will follow at St. John's Lutheran Cemetery, Bremen.  Memorials may be given to St. John's Lutheran Cemetery Trust Fund or St. John's Lutheran Church Organ Fund.
