WOODLAWN – Richard L. "Dick" Beckley, 78, of Woodlawn, formerly of Tilden, passed away at 9:48 pm, Monday, May 16, 2016 at Crossroads Community Hospital in Mount Vernon, Illinois.
Richard was born in Belleville on August 30, 1937, the son of Harold E. and Elizabeth A. McLean Beckley. He married Helen McBride on July 23, 1960 in Tilden. Richard was retired from World Color Press, Vernwood. He was a Veteran of the US Army Reserves from 1955-1963. Richard was a member of the Tilden Presbyterian Church in Tilden; Tilden Athletic Association, Tilden Food Pantry and Home Mission and GCIU.
Richard liked to refinish old furniture, going to auctions and he enjoyed watching Nascar racing. He was a very knowledgeable and avid sports fan. Richard was active in coaching and playing for many years. He loved to watch his children and grandchildren playing ball.
Richard is survived by his wife, Helen Beckley of Woodlawn, IL; his children, Jeff (Amy) Beckley of Dyersburg, TN, Mindy (Tim) Quick of Chesapeake, VA, and Scott (Liz) Beckley of Sparta; 7 grandchildren, Heather (Drew) Brooks, Holly (Matt) Powers, Courtney Beckley, Jordan Beckley, Justine Quick (Fiancée, Alex Gaston), Jason Quick and Janese Quick; two great grandchildren, Lawson Powers and Kendall Brooks; three brothers, Bill (Lois) Beckley of Tilden, Bob (Wilma) Beckley of Lydell, TX and James Beckley of Tilden, IL; one sister, Wanda (Jack) Campbell of Jacksonville, IL; brothers-in-law, Bernell (Donna) McBride of Tilden and Larry (Sally) McBride of Tilden; sisters-in-law, Judy Etling of Tilden and Eris McBride of Tilden; several nieces and nephews.
Richard was preceded in death by his Parents; one grandson, Trey Beckley; and two brothers-in-law, Willard McBride and Don Etling.
Funeral service will be held at 11:00 am, Friday, May 20, 2016 at the Tilden Presbyterian Church in Tilden, IL with Rev. Dr. Dennis R. Hamilton officiating. Burial will follow in Tilden Cemetery. Visitation will be at Tilden Presbyterian Church from 5 pm until 8 pm Thursday and on Friday from 9 am until 11 am. Memorials may be given Tilden Presbyterian Church, Tilden Food Pantry or Tilden Scholarship Fund.
