STEELEVILLE - Rex. F Cane, 76, of Niantic Easy Lyme, Connecticut, formerly of Steeleville, IL, passed away at 12:30 pm, Sunday, September 26, 2010 in East Lyme, Connecticut. Rex was born in Ulysses, Nebraska, on November 26, 1933, the son of H. Forrest and Gezell (Wagner) Cane. He grew up in Illinois and graduated from Sparta High School. At 22, he went to Niantic and decided to stay. He was well known and respected in the drywall construction business throughout Connecticut. Rex was involved in numerous youth activities as his kids grew up, most notably pee wee football and little league. He leaves behind two sons, John Cane of Westbrook, CT and Greg (Nadine) Cane of Uncasville, CT; two sisters, Icylmae Hille of Chester, and Lorraine Behnken of Marion, IL; two brothers, Frank Cane of Chester and Vernon Cane of Steeleville; six grandchildren; two great grandchildren; as well as his former wife, Barbara Cane. Rex was preceded in death by his parents; grandparents; a daughter, Lori Engelmann; two brothers, Russell Steele of Niantic, CT; and Ira Cane of Indiana. Graveside service will be held at 11:00 am, Saturday, October 30, 2010 at the Paradise Cemetery in Steeleville with Rev. Blake Duncan officiating. Burial will follow. Everyone is asked to meet at the cemetery. Arrangements are being handled by Wilson's Funeral Home, Steeleville.
