STEELEVILLE – Ramona J. "Monie" Mathis, 96, of Steeleville, IL, passed away on Tuesday, December 9, 2025, at Randolph County Care Center, Sparta, IL.

Monie was born June 9, 1929, in Pinckneyville, IL to James M. and Pearl (Logan) Steele. She married Clarence A. "Cotton" Mathis on June 10, 1950, in Campbell Hill, IL. He preceded her in death on May 8, 1994. Monie was a Secretary at Neiderbrach Trucking Service in Steeleville, IL, and a homemaker. She was a member of St. Peter Lutheran Church, Campbell Hill, IL, and the BBk American Legion Auxiliary Post 480, Steeleville, IL. Monie was an avid golfer and bowler. She enjoyed watching the Cardinal Baseball games and spending time with family and friends.

Monie is survived by her children: Bruce (Maxine) Mathis of Ellis Grove, IL, Doug Mathis of Steeleville, IL, Jon (Dana) Mathis of Steeleville, IL; her 9 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren, and her brother, Rex Steele of Nashville, TN.

Monie was also preceded in death by her parents, her son, Rick Mathis, 3 sisters: Evelyn Mathis, Calie Lee, Maxine Stone; and 2 brothers, Jack Steele and Fred Steele.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, December 19, 2025, 11:00 am, at St. Peter's Lutheran Church, Campbell Hill, IL, with Rev. Norlyn Bartens officiating. Burial to follow at St. Peter's Lutheran Cemetery, Campbell Hill, IL. Visitation will be Thursday, December 18, 2025, 4:00 – 7:00 pm, and on Friday morning, 7:30 – 9:00 am, at Wilson's Funeral Home, Steeleville, IL,  then 10:00 – 11:00 am, at the church.
