AVA – R. Sue Volkman, 83, of Ava, passed away at her home at 12:50 am, Sunday, July 12, 2026.

Sue was born in Ava, Illinois, on July 27, 1942, the daughter of Woodrow and Ione Bailey Cheatham. She married Robert L. Volkman on June 29, 1963 at Campbell Hill, Illinois. He preceded her in death on April 5, 2011. Sue was a Homemaker and a member of St. Peter Lutheran Church, Campbell Hill.

Sue is survived by one daughter, Kathy (Doug) Hammel of Ava; one son, Curtis (Julie) Volkman of Ava; four grandchildren, Caleb (Grace) Volkman, Kyle (Kelci) Hammel, Chandler (Loretta Elliott) Volkman, and Kaitlyn (Noah) Ridings; one great grandson, August Volkman; sisters-in-law, Glenda Cheatham of Ava and Shirley Nisbet of Ava; and several nieces and nephews.

Sue was preceded in death by her Parents; one infant son; one brother, Ronald Cheatham; and brother-in-law, Tom Nisbet.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, July 17, 2026 at 11:00 am, at Wilson’s Funeral Home, Ava, with Rev. Norlyn D. Bartens officiating. Burial will follow at Ava Evergreen Cemetery. Visitation will be at Wilson’s Funeral Home, Ava, where friends may call on Thursday from 5 pm until 7 pm, and on Friday from 7:30 am until the hour of the service. Memorials may be given to St. Peter Lutheran Church Steeple Fund or Disabled American Veterans.
