SPARTA - Phyllis E. Bockhorn, 93, of Sparta, passed away at 5:30 am, Saturday, December 28, 2013 at the Three Springs Lodge in Chester. Phyllis was born in Bronson, Iowa on October 11, 1920, the daughter of Ralph and Ada Mae Butler Kuykendall. She married Marvin E. Bockhorn on February 21, 1942 at Perryville, Missouri. He preceded her in death on September 21, 1995. Phyllis was a homemaker and mother. She was a member of the Peace Lutheran Church in Steeleville; Peace Lutheran WELCA; and the American Heart Association, having donated over 25 gallons of blood. Phyllis is survived by 13 children, Janet Morefield of Cutler, IL, Ernest Bockhorn of Victorville, CA, Mary Ann Schatte of Campbell Hill, Lawrence Bockhorn of Tucson, AZ, Judith Ebers of Chester, Martha Oakley of Evansville, IL, Ronald Bockhorn Ellis Grove, IL, Raymond Bockhorn of Sparta, Dennis Bockhorn of Green Forest, AR, Thomas Bockhorn of Sparta, Jane Wittenborn of Sparta, Carol Kaempfe of Chester and Sarah Kohlhaas of Sparta; 38 grandchildren; 53 great grandchildren; 7 great great grandchildren; two brothers, Kenneth Kuykendall of Lithia Springs, GA, and Henry "Hank" Kuykendall of Asheboro, NC; two sisters, Ada Jean Schellenger of Highland, IL and Betty Kane of Godley, TX; and one sister-in-law, Imogene Kuykendall of Roxboro, NC. Phyllis was also preceded in death by her Parents; one granddaughter; one great grandson; two brothers; and three sisters. Funeral service will be held at 11:00 am, Tuesday, December 31, 2013 at the Peace Lutheran Church in Steeleville with Rev. S. Blake Duncan officiating. Burial will follow in Peace Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be at Peace Lutheran Church on Monday from 6 pm to 9 pm and on Tuesday from 9 am until 11 am. Memorials may be given to Peace Lutheran Church, Hospice of Southern Illinois, Sparta Hospital Auxiliary, or Three Springs Lodge Nursing Home.
