Obituary

CUTLER, Oakley W. "Steve" Neubauer, 92, of Cutler, passed away at 7:43 AM Monday, November 28, 2011, at his home in Cutler, Illinois. He was born February 16, 1919 in Walcott, Iowa the son of Leo Neubauer and Matilda Katherine(Voss) Neubauer. Oakley married Wanda L. Webb in 1953 in Christopher, Illinois. Wanda passed away on September 27, 2009. He is survived by his: son: Byron W. Neubauer, Cutler, IL Oakley is preceded in death by his: parents. He was educated in the schools of Walcott Iowa, Davenport, Iowa and The University of Iowa. Oakley served in the U.S. Army, during WWII. He participated in the initial invasion of Normandy, Utah Beach on June 6th 1944, having taken part in the five major battles on the continent and was awarded a silver medal on his ETO ribbon, purple heart and a bronze star. He was later recalled to the Korean Conflict for his military service and was awarded two bronze stars. He started his career at the Rock Cote Paint Company (Later Valspar) as a management consultant, finishing his career at Burning Star Four at Cutler. Mr. Neubauer was a member of the UMWA Local #1825 and also a member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church, Steeleville. Funeral services will be held Friday, December 2, 2011 at 11:00 AM at Wilson's Funeral Home ,Steeleville, Illinois. Rev. Dr. Alan W. Janneke will be officiating. Burial will follow at Harrison Cemetery, Buckner, IL at 1 pm. Visitation will be at Wilson's Funeral Home in Steeleville on Thursday from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM and then on Friday from 7:30 to the hour of service. Memorials may be made to St. Mark's Lutheran Church.
